A Local’s Guide to the NoHo Arts District in North Hollywood

There’s a certain rhythm to the NoHo Arts District—one that doesn’t always announce itself, but reveals itself if you spend a little time here.

Tucked inside North Hollywood, this neighborhood has built its identity on creativity, independence, and the people who choose to make something of it every day. It’s not just a destination—it’s a place you move through slowly..

This isn’t a list of everything. It’s a way to experience NoHo the way we’ve come to know it.

Start Your Day: Coffee, Conversation, and a Walk Down Magnolia

Mornings in NoHo are quiet in the best way.

A good place to start is Republic of Pie, where you’ll find writers, creatives, and locals settling in with coffee and something warm. It’s the kind of place where people stay awhile.

A short walk away is Groundwork Coffee Co., a staple in Los Angeles with a steady flow of neighborhood regulars.

That’s where the name Hi Neighbor comes from. A small phrase that carries a big idea — that businesses can be open, welcoming, and part of the rhythm of the community around them

Explore the Arts: Theaters, Stages, and Stories

The NoHo Arts District earns its name through its theaters.

At the center is El Portal Theatre, a historic venue that has been part of the neighborhood for decades. .

Nearby, The Road Theatre Company continues that tradition with productions that reflect the working artist community that defines NoHo.

And then there’s Zombie Joe's Underground Theatre, where things get a little more immersive, a little more unexpected—very much in line with the spirit of the district. .

This is a neighborhood where you can see something different any night of the week.

Public Art & Murals: The Neighborhood as Canvas

Art in NoHo isn’t confined to indoor spaces.

Walk the neighborhood and you’ll find murals, installations, and unexpected moments of creativity throughout the streets. The NoHo Arts District Murals tell a story of the people who live and create here.

That idea—that the neighborhood itself is a canvas—is something we’ve tried to contribute to as well.

On Magnolia Boulevard, you’ll find our own mural at Hi Neighbor, created in collaboration with artist Jon Moody and our team. It’s one small part of a much larger creative landscape that defines this area.

Eat & Gather: Places That Bring People Together

As the day moves into the evening, the neighborhood shifts.

For something a little more social, Rodini Park brings a mix of energy, design, and shared plates that reflect the communal feel of the area.

Archie’s Sandwich Shop has built a following for doing simple things exceptionally well. It’s the kind of place people go out of their way for—and then keep coming back to.

And then there’s Salsa & Beer, a local staple that has built a loyal following over the years.

These aren’t just places to eat—they’re places where the neighborhood gathers, whether it’s for a quick bite, a long conversation, or something in between.

Getting Here: A Connected Corner of Los Angeles

Part of what makes the NoHo Arts District so accessible is its connection to the rest of the city.

The North Hollywood Metro Station sits just minutes away, connecting the neighborhood to Hollywood, Downtown Los Angeles, and beyond..

It’s one of the reasons NoHo continues to grow—people can come and go easily, but many choose to stay awhile.

A Perfect Day in the NoHo Arts District

If you have a few hours to spend in North Hollywood, here’s one way to move through the neighborhood at its own pace.

Start your morning slow. .

Grab a coffee and a seat at Republic of Pie. If you’d rather keep moving, Groundwork Coffee Co. is just down the way.
From there, take a walk down Magnolia Boulevard and keep an eye out for the NoHo Arts District Murals, including our own piece created with Jon Moody.

By midday, stop for something easy and satisfying at Archie’s Sandwich Shop.

A way to honor the creative spirit that makes the NoHo Arts District special.

Take your time in the afternoon. Explore, wander, or simply sit and take it all in..

If you find yourself looking to unwind, you’ll pass by Hi Neighbor—a North Hollywood cannabis dispensary built around helping people find what fits their moment, whether that’s relaxing, creating, or slowing things down.

From there, the night is yours.

Catch a show at El Portal Theatre, or step into something more unexpected at Zombie Joe's Underground Theatre.

Or just stay outside a little longer.
